Assassin's Creed Shadows staff reportedly pushed Ubisoft to delay game for months
Ubisoft staff asked bosses over the course of several months to delay Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a new report has claimed, as the need for further time became clear.
“While the announcement was somewhat of a shock publicly, internally, it was expected and desperately needed,” Insider Gaming writes, based on the accounts of seven developers working on the project.
The report cites a need for Shadows’ developers to be given additional development time to address bugs and better incorporate recent “tweaks” to gameplay mechanics based on playtests and mock reviews (a standard practice where external consultants size-up projects before copies are given to press).
Of particular note here is the mention that Ubisoft is taking time to address historical and cultur…

Amid ongoing player complaints and claims Ubisoft’s free-to-play shooter XDefiant is underperforming, the publisher has insisted the game is “absolutely not dying” as it unveils plans to tackle a range of issues in an updated development roadmap.
Ubisoft shared XDefiant’s latest roadmap in a newly published blog post, starting with an update on the game’s netcode and hitreg issues, and admitting it “still [has] a ways to go” as far as improvements are concerned. “I just want to quickly address the status of the game. i.e. is the game dying?,” the author then wrote. “No, the game is absolutely not dying. We know there are things we need to improve like Netcode/Hitreg and adding more content to progression, but the game is doing well. We just want it to do better…
Read moreNvidia boss: We can't do graphics anymore without AI
Nvidia boss Jensen Huang has discussed the advantages of AI, and said it was now a key component for the advancement of graphical capabilities.
“We can’t do computer graphics anymore without artificial intelligence,” Huang said, speaking recently at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology conference (via SeekingAlpha).
“We compute one pixel, we infer the other 32. I mean, it’s incredible,” Huang continued. “And so we hallucinate, if you will, the other 32, and it looks temporally stable, it looks photorealistic, and the image quality is incredible, the performance is incredible.”
While the energy costs of using AI are often highlighted as one of its various downsides, Huang argued that using it to compute parts of an image was instead saving power vers…

The proposed sales of Metro studio 4A Games, as well as that of Pinball developer Zen Studios, has been cancelled, Embracer announced today.
In March of this year, Embracer announced the sale of more of its assets, including large portions of Saber Interactive, for the price of $247m. At this time, Saber’s new CEO Matt Karch stated the company had decided to take 4A and Zen with it, despite initial messaging from Embracer suggesting the Swedish conglomerate may retain the two studios.
Now, however, the potential sale of both studios has been cancelled, and 4A and Zen will remain within Embracer.

Read morePayday 3 gets new creative leads as player numbers remain dwarfed by decade-old predecessor
Starbreeze Studios has announced major changes to Payday 3’s creative leadership team – with former game director Miodrag Kovačevićas “stepping away” from the role – as the co-operative shooter continues to struggle against its decade-old predecessor Payday 2.
Back in February, Starbreeze admitted Payday 3 player activity was “currently at significantly lower levels than [it] would like”, and a month later, CEO Tobias Sjögren was ousted from his role after the company’s board determined the studio “needs a different leadership”. But a quick look at Steam Charts suggests Payday 3’s playerbase continues to be dwarfed by that of its predecessor: Payday 3 saw a monthly average of around 844 Steam players in August – its highest monthly av…

Yesterday, Larian released Patch 7 for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC. This patch sorts out some lingering bugs and adds a number of new features to the game, including additional evil ending cinematics (more on those in a moment).
This patch also added official mod support to the PC version of the game, with the aim to get this patch onto consoles and Mac sometime next month.
However, if you are a PC player who wants to hold off updating their copy of Baldur’s Gate 3 with this recent patch for whatever reason, you can do just that.

Read morePrince of Persia: The Lost Crown's Mask of Darkness story DLC detailed
Way back in March, Ubisoft’s shared its post-launch roadmap for the excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and six months later we’re almost at its end. Its final content drop – the paid Mask of Darkness story DLC – launches on 17th September, and Ubisoft’s has now revealed at least some of what players can expect to see when it arrives.
Mask of Darkness introduces a “sizeable” new biome known as Radjen’s Mind Palace, promising “fresh traversal elements, traps, enemies, and more”. It’ll unlock once players have escaped the Depths and acquired the Shadow of the Simurgh time power, meaning players will need to have a decent amount of playtime under their belts before they can get stuck in.

Read morePersona and Italian horror-inspired tactical RPG Demonschool gets last minute delay
Demonschool – the upcoming RPG inspired by Persona and Italian horror films – has been delayed.
The game was initially meant to release next month, on 13th September. However, after careful consideration, the team has decided to postpone the launch to ensure it reaches a higher standard.
“You never want to delay a game, but Demonschool means a lot to us. We’ve really put everything we have into this project, and as we got closer to release we realised that meeting the 13th September deadline would necessarily mean a game with less content than we originally envisioned,” developer Necrosoft Games said today.
